Music for Reflections in an Eye of Titanium

The music for the dance Reflections in an Eye of Titanium, presented by Cornell University's Department of Theatre, Film & Dance on March 10-13, 2005, was written by Allen Fogelsanger. Most of the concert's music is now arranged in a three-movement work called Matsumushi.

Here is an MP3 audio recording of music which originally accompanied the section of the dance concert choreographed by Armadillo Dance Project's Kathleya Afanador, called Emerging Perspectives by director E.D. Intemann. And here is an image (courtesy of Kathleya Afanador).

The dancers in the image are, from left to right, Eugenia Chun, Micheal Somersel, and Lauren Uhler. The set was designed by Christa Seekatz, the costumes by Sarah E. Bernstein, the lighting by E.D. Intemann, and the video by Marilyn Rivchin.

There is also a choice of video excerpts from Afanador's section: for those of you with slow speeds and not much time, a fifteen-second low-quality movie (312 KB QuickTime); for those of you with QuickTime 7 (and the H.264 codec), there's an eighteen-second high quality movie (13 MB).

Most of the music composed for the final part of Reflections, the section choreographed by Jumay Chu called Titanium Fractures, has been included in the third movement of Matsumushi, called Fibonacci's Flowerpot. Fibonacci's Flowerpot was selected for presentation at the 2006 national conference of the Society for Electro-Acoustic Music in the United States (SEAMUS) at the University of Oregon in Eugene, Oregon, March 30-April 1, 2006. It also was selected to be part of a day-long presentation of acousmatic music, Free Play 6: Listening Chamber, at the Art Gallery of Grand Valley State University, Allendale, Michigan, on January 25, 2007.

The penultimate section of Reflections, Reflections on a Moving Train choreographed by Joyce Morgenroth, is the second movement of Matsumushi, called Einstein's Closet. Einstein's Closet was selected for presentation at the 2006 national conference of the Society of Composers, Inc. (SCI) in San Antonio, Texas, September 13-16, 2006.

Part of the first section of Matsumushi, the Emerging Perspectives mentioned above the photograph, was selected as accompaniment for U R HERE, a performance adventure offered by Artichoke Dance Company along 5th Avenue in Park Slope, Brooklyn, New York, June 14-15 & 21-22, 2008.
